The rest of the news

Inventing is in my blood. I get it from my dad. Of course, none of his inventions ever worked, but we Meyers are a tenacious lot.

I promised more news, and here it is. Since Monday afternoon Basic Instructions has been available at GoComics. I had intended to post this news Monday morning, but they took till the afternoon to get the site launched, and then I wanted to give the html a day or so to propagate.

Those of you who also read the Dilbert blog might wonder why Scott Adams hasn't mentioned this development. If you look at the upper-right hand corner of his site you'll see the logo of an online comics syndicate, and it ain't GoComics. Thus, Mr. Adams is most likely done promoting my site, but he's still being tremendously supportive and helpful.

That news I promised

The new strip is up. Of course, that's not the news.

The news is that I have finished the bulk of the work on my first book and have submitted it to the publisher. The book will be out in late August and I couldn't be happier with how it's looking.

Now that the book, and moving, and the devil-flu, and my out of town visitors are out of the way I intend to post to the news blog far more often (note to self: How to Make a Lame Excuse). The truth of the matter is that I don't like to post unless I really have something interesting to say. What I've come to realize is that very little about the day to day operation of the strip seems interesting to me because I'm immersed in it. Many of you seem interested, and the very least I can do is give you a little info every now and then. I'm sorry that I've been remiss.

Toward that end, look for another post early this week with more news.

Thanks,
Meyer

For those who have wondered...

For those who have wondered why some of my recent strips have had a copyright date of 2007 when we're now well into 2008, it's because my contract with the Seattle Weekly stipulates that they get the strips no less than thirty days before it gets posted on the web. I have a backlog of strips that ran in print in 2007, but haven't been on the web yet, so the copyright date is accurate.

Thanks for caring.

I don't know what I'm doing.

Today's strip is a bit ... abstruse. If you play video games much at all, you most likely get what I was going for. If you don't care about video games, this strip makes no sense and never will. The fault is mine, not yours.

Why am I punchy, you ask? Well, I'm working on my book. I had thought that it would be a simple matter. I've already created the strips, haven't I? Surely all I need to do now is put them on pages in some semi-deliberate order and put some time into commentaries. Cake, ... right?

RIGHT!?

Well, it would be, if not for the fact that I am an idiot. When I started making Basic Instructions, I knew nothing about publishing, and as such I created some elements of the strip in the wrong color format. This means that I have to go through each strip looking for problem images and hand correcting them.

The good news is that there are only a few drawings that have this problem.

The bad news is that this drawing is one of them.

I am pretty busy these days.

(For the record, I am, in fact, the luckiest man on Earth. If my biggest problem is having to actually work to publish a book, I have no real problems.)
