Dumbo, Mulan, Cinderella, Pinocchio, Fantasia, Aladdin, Bambi, Pocahontas, Hercules and Tarzan. I think. Not counting Pixar films, which means you have to count some that are only slightly “classics”.

uhhhh…what was the question? what is a mammal that cannot jump? Dumbo.
November 8th, 2009 at 11:09 pm
I’d hardly consider Mulan, Tarzan, Hercules or Pocohontas to be classics.

Ahem: “hoping”.
End of panel 3 is great.
November 8th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
End of panel two is my favourite.

This is my favorite web comic, and not in small part because every single frame is five times as funny as most other entire strips.

“The Black Hole”? Perhaps, “The Black Cauldron”?

I just know my new manager (takes over next month) had a mullet. Every frame of this one was gold! I’m making this my wallpaper. He certainly won’t understand this is him, even if I do shave my head.

I work with a guy who would say, “Actually, I only asked IF you could name them… I didn’t ask you TO name them”. Grrr…
Another great comic though Scott!

Did you know that there are ten horses named in the Lord of the Rings? Ponies don’t count.

Tron! One of my all-time favorites. For all fans who haven’t heard about Tron: Legacy yet, here it is http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1104001/
Also, if you haven’t caught the 20 year anniversary making of, I highly recommend it.
The black hole – definitely a classic, although it scared me much as a kid. Our family still sometimes uses the head palms that one of the characters does (”I’m surrounded by stupid robots” or something like that).

@Scott: No, he meant “The Black Hole”. See http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078869/

The Black Hole!! We just watched that a couple months ago. Instant classic. I highly recommend it.

I mostly agree with ian — I think the indisputably correct answers would be Dumbo, Bambi, Cinderella, Fantasia, Pinocchio, Aladdin. If you’re flexible about definite articles, add The Rescuers and The Aristocats. Then fill out the list with these, in my own very subjective ordering of most to least classic, with none of them actually being classic yet: Mulan, Pocahontas, Hercules, Tarzan, Bolt, Dinosaur.

so what are the 15 synonyms for idiot? I feel like a real (blank) for not knowing.
November 9th, 2009 at 3:05 pm
Don’t forget Bolt and Dinosaur. Both are Disney not Pixar and both are “animated”.
November 9th, 2009 at 3:15 pm
moron, dupe, nincompoop, retard, doofus, blockhead, spazz, twit, stupid, dummy, uhhh… I’ve run out. And I’m not sure all of those even count.
November 9th, 2009 at 3:21 pm
Another one-word Disney animation title: “Dinosaur.” But probably not a classic by anyone’s standards.
@Patrick: Dope, dolt, nitwit, dimwit, halfwit, imbecile, fool, bonehead, [fill in the blank]-head…
November 9th, 2009 at 3:53 pm
@Patrick -
clotpoll, ninnyhammer, buffoon, chowderhead, prat, loonbucket. . . .
Great strip, by the way.

I didn’t think any Disney movies were classics. Here are my contributions to the synonym for idiot catalog:
cretin, meat head, micro-encephalic, numbskull, simpleton, vacuum-brain. That’s all I can think of.

Hey, where’s my gravatar?
November 9th, 2009 at 7:14 pm
Pocahontas is too a Disney classic, not least of all because it has a bonafide “princess” character.
November 9th, 2009 at 8:31 pm
Why would someone who loves Tron so much not already own it. If you owned it you wouldn’t have to try to convince people to rent Tron. But I totally agree Tron is “classic” Disney.
November 10th, 2009 at 12:08 am
@Patrick: Simpleton, dunce, ignoramus, dodo, oaf, clod, dullard, birdbrain, dingbat
November 10th, 2009 at 4:25 pm
i reiterate – WHAT THE FLAMING DEUCE IS ‘TRON’?

Jason: Scott never said he rented Tron, just that he rents movies with people who don’t grok Tron. He probably tries to rent movies akin to Tron.
November 10th, 2009 at 10:56 pm
Or he owns it on Betamax.
November 11th, 2009 at 2:42 am
Well, if you use “classic” the way Disney does, which apparently means “anything that’s not a recent film” then yeah, Dinosaur would count. Aristocats is another.
November 11th, 2009 at 12:18 pm
Aristocats had a “The”.

I love “tron” and “the black hole”! i’ve never met anyone other than my brother who likes those movies.
i feel vindicated!

the ‘official’ list (I had to look it up – now it makes sense):
http://homepage.usask.ca/~jjs142/movielist.htm
from the website – confirming as previously mentioned Disney ‘classics’ are ‘classics’ because their ‘resident expert on classics’ says so:
Disney’s self-proclaimed “Masterpieces” – These are numbered by the company itself, and it’s usually unknown if an upcoming movie will be a “Masterpiece” or not until an announcement is made. Disney Archivist Dave Smith is the ultimate authority in this area, and this list represents the official company view.
so we’ve got 2/3/4/5/12/31/33/35/36/37 – and also as previously mentioned, I think about 15 of their ‘44′ are too recent to be ‘classics’ and about half the other ones I haven’t heard of, i.e. they probably have ‘failed’ the ‘test’ of ‘time’ and can’t be considered ‘classics’. of the last 5 I think only Mulan has the same quality of the ‘real’ classics, and not sure I’d consider Fantasia a classic, since it had no plot but did bring ‘faerie-porn’ into the mainstream – so that’s nice…. I’m also still a bit disturbed that what now would be considered statutory/slave-rape of the Pocahontas history is turned into a Disney/princess/romance movie. She was 13 when they met? he was ~40? maybe it was ‘ok’ back then but so was treating non-WASP’s as animals….
as long as I’m off on a rant here – here’s my short list of ‘real classics’:
1/2/4/5/12/13/14/15/16/17/19/22/24/28/30/31/32/36 and maybe 41
